On September 3rd, China Minmetals Corporation’s graphite research team achieved a significant milestone by overcoming key challenges in high-temperature purification technology for graphite. They successfully developed ultra-high purity graphite products with a purity level exceeding 99.99995%. This breakthrough places China’s ultra-high purity graphite products at the forefront of global standards and will play a crucial role in ensuring a stable supply of high-end carbon-based materials for the country’s strategic emerging industries.
Ultra-high purity graphite, characterized by a carbon content of over 99.99%, is known for its excellent self-lubrication, conductivity, corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, and outstanding chemical stability.
China Minmetals Corporation owns one of the world’s largest graphite mines, the Yunshan Graphite Mine in Hegang, and has established a processing plant with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons along with a deep processing industry chain. In terms of applications for ultra-high purity graphite, the research team is accelerating the development of high-end anode materials, nuclear-grade graphite, and semiconductor-grade graphite, among other carbon-based products.
