Where in Life Are Graphite Rods Used?

Graphite rods are highly resistant to oxidation, have low electrical resistance, can withstand temperatures up to 1800°C, and are corrosion-resistant. Their applications include:

  1. Writing and Pigments: Due to its stable chemical properties, graphite can be used for pencil leads, pigments, and polishes. Writings made with graphite can last a long time.
  2. High-Temperature Materials: Graphite’s heat resistance makes it suitable for refractory materials. For example, crucibles used in the metallurgical industry are made of graphite. It can also be used as a conductive material, such as in carbon rods in electrical applications, anodes of mercury rectifiers, and brushes.
  3. Lubrication: Graphite is a wise choice for wear-resistant sliding materials in high-temperature environments, replacing lubricating oils. In mechanical production, graphite is often used as a lubricant because lubricating oil cannot be used under high temperature and high pressure, whereas graphite can still perform in such conditions.
